An Unrecognised Book of Hours Made for Philip the Good [III]

I said in a previous post that I would give a list of the contents of Smith College, MS 288.

As the manuscript has a considerable number of unusual prayers, I provide here a detailed (but not exhaustive) list of its contents, so that, once indexed by Google and other search engines, researchers looking for unusual incipits may find this page.


  • (fols.1r-12v) Calendar, in French; fol.13r-v blank.
  • (fols.14r-16v) Prayer to be said by Philip the Good.
  • (fols.17r-23r) Gospel extracts from John, Matthew, and Mark; fol.23v blank.
  • (fols.24r-26r) The usual Gospel extract from Luke, preceded by Luke 16:18-20; fols.26v-28v blank.
  • (fols.29r-33v) Prayer "Obsecro te ... et mich famulo tuo .P.N. ...".

  • (fols.109r-125r, rubric on 108v) The Seven Penitential Psalms.
  • (fols.125r-131v) Litany, petitions, and three collects.
