A Little-Known Manuscript Dated 1471, made for Ercole d’Este, Duke of Ferrara


Rather than attempt a full blog-post this week, I will just link to one that I wrote for the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, that was posted online yesterday.

One detail that I did not mention there, but that I will be looking out for in future, is the way in which De Marinis marked the manuscript. In his published catalogue, the description ends with "(8629b)", doubtless his stock number:
and the same number is pencilled in the top left corner of the first page of the manuscript itself:
